Oil Mining in Detail.
When mining oil, we first get raw form of the energy source that has to be refined into many compounds that each find some application in life today. Crude oil does not just happen to be there, its formed by dead organisms undergoing decomposition over millions of years deep into the earth. The earth experiences some movement under the plates and in result the movements trap oil and natural gas between the reservoir rocks.
Oil drilling companies are very important as without them we would not be where we are today . They are responsible for the exploration and also the extracting of this precious resource from the earth. Exploration is conducted by geologists who are tasked with finding the crude oil and pinpointing the exact location where the extraction will be effected. The geologist will look for areas that will present good conditions that can trap oil. The gravitational change in the earth’s crust will change from time to time and that needs to be observed by the geologists as it could indicate the direction in which the oil flows. 3D and 4D seismic imaging can also be used in the locating of oil in the reservoir rocks of the earth. This kind of oil exploration works by sending some shocks with some special equipment deep into the hidden rocks of the earth.
The reflections of the waves are then sent back to the surface of the earth where the geologist will then analyze them to have some results. If the area is found to have potentially lucrative deposits of oil, the coordinates of the area are marked so that extraction of oil can begin, if the area is over water body it is marked with a buoys Identifying an area to extract oil is one thing and mining is another. The geologists will conduct and present reports of environment impact and they will mark the perimeter of the area as well. A company will only start to mine when they have been awarded the rights by the authorities in charge of the area with the deposits. With the rights obtained the company begins the mining by clearing the area of any vegetation that may be obstructing movement. The company then proceeds to build access roads for ease of moving machinery.
Water is needed for the drilling process, is there is no water on site then the company has to drill a borehole. Disposal of the rock and mud from the drilling is necessary and that is why the company will dig pits prior for the dumping. Drilling can begin as soon as a pit is made around the main drilling hole to enable access to the area.
